Taize Prayer

Presenter: Joanne White

Taize is a prayer service, with a focus on reconciliation, peace and social justice. Comprised of Scripture readings, prayer, sacred silence and chants, its underlying aim is for those gathered to enter together into the mystery of God’s presence. The chants are short, containing words from the Psalms or other Scripture. Sung communally, the chants become a unifying prayer and contribute to inner stillness. This peaceful service is conducted in candlelight and will last 45 minutes, ending with Gregory Norbert’s arrangement of Dona Nobis Pacem. Time: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM Free will offering

Encountering the Gospels Again, For The First Time

Presenter: Mary Schneiders, OP.

Most of us have certain favorite gospel stories or sayings to which we turn to find strength and comfort. But when was the last time you discovered something really new in the gospels, saw something from a totally different perspective, or were challenged by something you never even noticed before? In this retreat you will be invited to rediscover many gospel teachings and sayings in ways pertinent to our contemporary world view and the questions and issues with which we struggle today. Is not this the promise renewed for every age of Jesus’ words at the Last Supper, when he said, “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. When the Spirit of Truth comes, that Spirit will guide you in all truth. The Holy Spirit, whom God will send in my name, will instruct you in everything and remind you of all that I told you”? Come and experience the miracle of God’s ever-new revelation spoken in the depths of our own hearts.

Evolutionary Christianity: Awakening to the Universe Story.

Presenter: Norman Comtois, OMI.

The 21st century has provided us with an expanded story of creation that needs to inform our Christian Story. We now know that we live in an evolving or evolutionary universe. Evolution is the way that God creates in space and in time, in every sphere.

This new cosmology simply cannot be contained by former modes and images of God or by former ways of being Church. This retreat will draw on the latest scientific understandings of the nature of the universe and weave them together with scripture, prayer, ritual, community, and services to create an ecological and truly evolutionary Christian experience. Each day will include teachings, reflection questions, dialogue, ritual and quiet time for reflection. Participants will be encouraged to share questions important to them in a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental environment.
